The New Zealand Gran Fond has 3 challenging options for you to choose from in 2021.
The ultimate “big challenge”, Te Miro hill, Scotsman’s Valley and French Pass to name a few (1209m elevation gain). The course is basically a figure of 8 with the second loop being the course for the Elite Nationals road race the next day. Ride your fastest ride on Saturday and the be blown away by the speed of the Elite riders on Sunday.
Two aid stations, recovery tent of snacks and drinks post race, spot prizes, solid finishers medal, age group 1st, 2ndand 3rdawards. Bring your weekend warrior riding mates and make a race within a race or encourage each other to complete the challenge.
This distance is a new introduction since the feedback was overwhelming in 2020. Many riders felt 18km was too short but 100km was beyond them so asked for a 50km option. Seeing as we are all about the ‘big challenge’ we have answered the call for a 50km distance with 67km instead. You know you can do it if you put in some training and bring your friends along to encourage each other to complete it.
There is an aid station on course, some good hills to really challenge you, spot prizes, recovery tent and solid finishers medal. We can guarantee a sense of achievement after this one!
Again E-bikes welcome. Riders must be 14yrs of age or older.
A great ride in the countryside with a few little lumps in the road to add to the challenge. Feel the accomplishment of completing 18km, it is timed for your own interest, aid station at approximately half way and an amazing solid medal to top it off.
All riders are in the draw for some great spot prizes and have access to the recovery tent at the end of the ride for some much needed drinks and snacks.
Bring your friends, school mates, parents – it is a ride for everyone. E-bikes are welcome and so too are trikes and hand bikes. Riders under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult (can be multiple children to riding adult ratio).
