There are 2 different ride options for the inaugural Ruapehu Gran Fondo, both events finish at the top of the Bruce Road at the Whakapapa Ski field.
The Gran Fondo 164
Starting at Whakapapa Ski field with 2861m of total climbing.
(As a guide to your suitability for this event you should be able to complete Taupo in under 4hr 50min or K2 in under 6hr 30min (2017/18 events)
Please note your will be Neutralised from the top of the Bruce Road down to the Chateau and you will then regroup into your allocated start groups and be let go from there.
The Mid Fondo 117
Starting in Turangi with 2525m of climbing.
(As a guide to your suitability for this event you should be able to complete Taupo in under 5hr 50min, Half of Taupo in under 3hr 00min or K1 under 3hr 30min)
The Women’s Elite Race will be run as part of The Mid Fondo 117, start as part of Group 2
Note: There will be a limited number of riders accepted for both events (250). To help you select which race you will take part in, see the time guidelines.
If you have not meet the time guidelines then we reserve the rights to refuse your entry or ask you to change event.
The Gran Fondo 164 (limited to 250 riders)
4 Start Groups: 1, 2, 3 and 4
The Mid Fondo 117 (limited to 250 riders)
4 Start Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4
Entries Open: 8th October 2018
Entries Close: Once the allocated number has been reached or at Midnight 3rd March 2019.
Any late entries if accepted will incur an additional $25-00
The Gran Fondo 164 & The Mid Fondo 117 will be split into 4 groups based on submitted times or other performances.
When you enter please select your preferred START group. (1, 2, 3 or 4) Group 1 will be the group expected to go the quickest. The Gran Fondo 164 Group 1 will be the Men’s Elite Race and must be 17 years of age and over.
The Women’s Elite Race will be part of The Mid Fondo 117 and will start as part of Group 2.

The Gran Fondo 164: There is plenty of car parking available in several car parks at the Ski field. Please follow instructions of the parking marshals. Not everyone can park at the top car park, and please note that some car park areas are not sealed.
The Mid Fondo 117: There is various car park areas close to the start point for you to use.
There will be restricted “Access” from The Chateau to the Top of the Bruce (Finish line) This will be in effect once the first riders start to arrive finish.
5.6km after turning onto SH4 and 52km to the Finish. (This would be suitable for both rides)
Grand Fondo 164: We will have a neutral a vehicle that will have spare drink bottles available with Water and Sports Drink for you to use if required.
